The golden age of coach travel is brought alive by the Newman’s coach display in the Livery Stables. Newman brothers, Tom & Harry were instrumental in opening up transport routes across the top of the South Island and developing New Zealand’s tourism industry. The display charts the story of Newmans Coaches from the first horse drawn mail run in 1879 through its growth into a company with a nationwide fleet of buses which remained in the Newman family until 1979.
